Children's liturgy session. Ushers assist with the collection.

The central reality of the faith community is a call to acknowledge God in a life of prayer, devotion and liturgy. The call to praise God as a faith community is linked to our nature as humans and to the meaning of Jesus' life. Central to the catholic community is the celebration of the liturgy.

Vatican II in the Constitution on the Divine Liturgy emphasized the need for lay participation. In keeping with this mandate the following ministries were developed:

  • Altar Servers - Assist the priest during weekend Masses about twice a month, and on Christmas and Easter. Training is provided.
  • Eucharistic Ministers -These ministers help distribute holy communion during the liturgies. Training is provided.
  • Lectors - These ministers proclaim the first and second readings during the liturgies. They are assigned once a month. Training is provided.
  • Ushers -These ministers greet and assist the congregation at Mass, take up the collection, and assist anyone who becomes ill during Mass. Ushers are scheduled every other week and meet three times a year.
  • Children's Liturgy of the Word - This is an opportunity for children ages 5 through 12 to experience the Liturgy of the Word at their level. It is offered during the 10:00 and 11:30 Masses all year. During the school year is it also offered during the 5:00 Mass. No registration is required.
  • Adult Choir- The choir sings at the 10:00 a.m. Mass every Sunday during the school year. They also sing on Holy Days. They practice on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
  • Children's Choir - The children sing at the 11:30 a.m. Mass once a month and at the special children's liturgies, except during the summer months. Practice is on Tuesday's at 6:00 p.m.
